Tip of the Month #4: Backups, Backups, Backups!
|
|
| |
Sure, you Hotsync your PDA so that you have two copies of your contacts, calendar, memos, and important documents. But if you lost
your PDA or if it had a hard crash, would you be able to quickly and easily restore it to the way it used to be?
File backups are not enough. It is also important to keep track of software, so that restoring your PDA back to good health will take only
minutes. Here are some tips to help prepare you, should you need to reload and restore a lost or crashed PDA:
- Whenever you download applications from the Web to your PC or Mac, keep all of the files in the same folder. For example, create a new folder called "PDA
Software Downloads" and keep them all there. As added protection, back up this folder onto CD or DVD.
- Keep all PRC and related files in your Add-On folder.
- If you use applications that were beamed to you from another PDA, make sure you know its source so that you can easily find and re-load it.
- Keep all application CDs in a box or folder along with the installation CD, instruction manual, and warranty information that came with your PDA.
- When you obtain new PDA software, bookmark the Web page (organize all such pages in a special folder within your "Favorites") so that you can easily find
information on the program if you need it.
If you need to restore your PDA, all of the programs and info you need will be in one place!
